Version 1.0.1 (The Small™️ Update) + Question to the public!

Hello!

Before I talk about what I did in this update, I'll preface this by saying that this was a purely technical update! Cool as it would have been for me to release more days this early in development, I am unfortunately not capable of such feats.

That being said, the technical change that came with this update was (at least in my opinion), pretty significant - by changing some of the file formats used to store images and sound effects, I was able to shrink Solstice Eve's file size from ~300 megabytes to ~80 megabytes! At the end of the day this mostly affects web players, but this should make the game much quicker to download for everyone.

Beyond that, I do have a question I'd like to raise for everyone reading this - would people prefer I release quicker, but smaller builds, or longer builds? Since build 1 was going to be peoples' first introduction to the story, I wanted to ensure that it functioned as a cohesive narrative on its own, and that it ended with a satisfying plot development between Cantor and Darwin - I'm now wondering whether I should ensure that future builds also end on similarly satisfying / "big" moments, or if I should focus more on keeping the story going without there being too long of a break between releases  - especially since I fear that updates that are over 10k words might be a bit too overwhelming for players.

With that in mind, I'd like to hear what others have to say - so if you've got opinions on the matter, feel free to share them in the comments of this post!

As far as world-building goes, even in stories with the entire plot written out already, larger updates allow for less changes in future updates, primarily regarding details. Halfway through writing a second day, you might realize something in the first day needs to change to make more sense. This can still be changed even after that day is published, but it's easier when it's in an unpublished part.

Most people following vns are used to long waits, specially if they are solo developed. At least that's my experience.

Set your own pace man! People want finished projects and happy developers. Although, if your goal is to grow a following and make some profit, smaller builds are definetively the go to.

(The satisfying endings/cliffhangers make it easier to remember to check for new builds imo)

At your own pace, whenever your ready.

I am okay-with/prefer big infrequentupdates... but I also acknowledge that little frequent updates are WAY easier to maintain steady interest and, if relying on this project for income, steady income.

But ultimately, I'd leave it to whatever makes you happiest and/or least stressed.
